‘Tis the Season

I swear, as I get older, I just love the holidays more and more.

I love doing the little things for all the people in my life who help keep my world turning.

I love seeing the smiles.

Our world needs more damn smiles.

So, I haven’t posted…because I have been working like a crazy little elf on all of the goodies for all of the peeps.  It’s been busy!

I did take a break last Sunday to make the storm window frames for the craft room.  Funny story there.  I had been up there sewing, in multiple layers, still freezing.  I was watching the musical Rent while working and the thought crossed my mind…”Hey, minus the drugs and AIDS, I have a lot in common with the characters in this! Freezing my ass off and looking at a burning candle like it’s really going to make me feel warm!”  So, I decided it was time to get those windows buttoned up!

But, this is some of the stuff I have been working on!

It has been a variety of gifts for coworkers and the kiddos in my Off the Hook Club at school and even some fun doggie accessories for The Pet Loft!  PHEW!  This doesn’t even include gifts for my friends and family…that’s tomorrows project, because if I shared pics now….it would ruin the fun.

But the point of this post is this…it is so easy to get so lost in the lists and the To Do’s and the stress of the holidays.  For me though, each year…although always stressful…gets easier and easier.  I have really started to LOVE the process.  Making things gives me a chance to knock the cobwebs out of the crafty side of my brain.  I get to have an excuse to spend hours in my craft space just jamming and creating.  It doesn’t get much better than that for me.  Plus, I get to see the smiles…that’s so selfish of me.  But I LOVE seeing people smile and knowing I played a part in that!

So, take a moment…breathe…and love the moments that make this time of year so magical.  It’s not about the money spent…it’s about the smiles and the memories.  Laugh.  Love.  Embrace it!!!!

Plus, I really like Christmas lights.  I’m a kid at heart!

If I don’t talk to you all before Christmas….have a WONDERFUL holiday!

Peace out peeps.

I think I have found my niche.

Hey y’all!

So, how is everyone on this gorgeous Saturday morning?

Last weekend, I hosted another painting class at the house…and oh we are starting to have so much fun!

I think I have found my niche!

So, when I started the classes, I wanted to do a variety of classes and I can’t say that I still won’t.  But the masses have spoken.
They like to paint.

A lot!

So, now when it comes to the painting classes, I basically let everyone tell me what THEY would like to paint!  That way, I know for certain, that they are taking something home with them that they will LOVE!

IMG_20161030_171159848.jpg

I have got to tell you…I love how creative and talented everyone is!  It’s so exciting to see everyone work and encouraging each other to make such wonderful things!

Not to mention, everyone gets to serious and into it!

Next class up…we will be painting on glass!  Check out the Facebook event if you’re local and are interested!

Oh and memories…One year ago this weekend was the Open House party at the house!

See, organized and AMAZING!

So…as usual…thanks again for all of your support!

Peace out peeps.

Never Enough. Ever.

I realized as I wrote that title, that it sounds terrible.  But hopefully, I’ll be able to clarify by the end of the post and it won’t seem like I am horrible, greedy person!  lol!

I am finishing up my Spring Break and as I review what my To Do list was and what I actually got done, I realized it’s never enough.  Never enough time, energy, and even creativity!  So, then it became a matter of really enjoying what I did accomplish and taking pleasure in the fact that I was able to make SOME progress.  IMG_20160331_143933744_HDR

I started work on my new craft table, which was an extra 9 foot tall door from downstairs.  I will be getting pieces of glass to cover it and I think it’s going to be a great workspace!  I am super excited about it.

IMG_20151015_215447_05

Ironically, on October 15th…I moved this very door from almost the exact same spot it is in now.  When I bought the house, the doors had been stored in what is now the craft room.  Well, I wanted them hanging in their original door frames.  But once I lived in the house for a while, I realized I didn’t want all of these extra doors.  So, back upstairs it went.  I think it’s much more handy as a table!

Have I mentioned…those doors are extremely heavy!

I also got my craft closet one step closer to being done. It still needs plaster work done and painted.  But at least I have started to be able to put things away to make more space in the main room.

So, sometimes, it’s the very smallest things that you have to focus on.  But it’s very easy to feel like there is never enough time.  When that starts to happen, just remind yourself that every little bit counts and you’re only in race against yourself.  Not the world.  Not the expectations.  Not anyone else.  Just you.  So, be patient and forgiving of yourself daily.

As a friendly reminder, I woke up this morning to a fresh blanket of April snow.  There is something so refreshing and calming about snow.  I kinda needed it this morning.

Which translates to….we are hunkered down for a nice quiet morning 🙂

Enjoy the day everyone.

Peace out peeps.

48 More Shades of Gray to go!

Well at least until the fun starts!  KIDDING!!  My mom is reading this…hi Momma!

I painted the dining room yesterday!  Now, I have to admit, I really enjoy painting.  Well, it doesn’t bother me terribly.  This is a pretty generic  panoramic of  the room when I started yesterday, about 1:30.  Lots of light!IMG_20160212_130757457

I started with the ceiling.  I was bound and determined to paint the ceiling a dark color.  I have 10 foot ceilings…and LIGHT…lots of it….so WHY NOT???  I actually would have gone darker, but I wanted to save those I love from having a heart attack!

IMG_20160212_162054063_HDR

Then came the tedious process of cutting in.  For the record, 6 doors and 2 windows,  plus the ceiling.  It’s annoying to say the least.  It actually went pretty quick!

IMG_20160212_180129590_HDR

Then I took a break to love on this handsome stud.  This is the best dog in the world…don’t tell every other dog on the planet…including Daisy!

IMG_20160212_162951327

So, this is what I was most excited about.  I had everything painted in just under 6 hours…I was super impressed!  Lots of climbing the ladder and I was virtually crippled last night, but I think it was worth it.  I wonder if @nicolecurtis would approve??  What about you?

IMG_20160212_185316147

Here’s another version.

IMG_20160212_185401815

I have some exciting ideas to jazz up my curtains.  I hope to get to that this weekend. but we’ll see. Plus, dad will be coming out to dress up the chandelier and lengthen it a little more.  I know he can’t wait (Mmm hmm…total sarcasm…he already made some comment about not being able to trust just shutting the light switch off in case they hot wired the nuetral)!!! It’s slowly becoming more homey!  Bonus, it will all be beautiful and done for the next class at the end of February!

Peace out peeps!

Craft rooms…the good, bad and ugly.

So, I have a 4-day weekend coming up.  I am torn between tackling the dining room or the craft room (or ambitiously, both…or should I say…insanely).

With that being said, my OCD has kicked in.  Looking up ideas, brainstorming out what I like and don’t like and then sprinkling…I mean POURING in a whole lot of reality.

Pinterest.

God how I LOVE to HATE you.

You are NOT reality.  You are as real as the lottery.  Especially when it comes to designing and organizing craft room spaces.

However, like the bikini body I’ll never have…I WANT YOU!!!  The GORGEOUS, LAVISH, PERFECT room for nothing but hours of blissful crafting.  I mean, in my dream world…lovely light, perfect containers situated just Martha Stewart perfect. The cozy, beautiful sitting chair where I can count the hours watching out the window while putting the finishing touches on the creations that I can share with the world.

POUR ON THE REALITY!!!

This is a slight example of full work mode currently…not TERRIBLE…but not the room of my dreams!

I have a closet full of house repair products the previous tenants left.  Walls that are a mess.  Holes, a sorta finished newer wall (which is actually going to go bye bye) and stacks of stuff everywhere.  Ahhh, the story of every craft person out there…stacks of STUFF.

So, how do you get to that perfect craft room?  I have found lots of tricks and tips for organization…anyone?  Input?  Wanna share you favorite picks of your craft space???  HELP ME????

The one thing I have working for me is I do have AMAZING light…and it’s a good sized room.

IMG_20151206_100431000
Note:  I wouldn’t recommend spray painting in the house.

And I get to see the most amazing sunsets!

IMG_20151224_173124355
Check out those walls!  I actually might keep the idea and just recreate it…I wish they wouldn’t have gotten lazy and painted over the hand created border!

And the dogs love hanging out with me when I am up there!

IMG_20151224_151618645_HDR
Check out the light!!!

So, take a second….share a pic.  A thought.  A helpful hint that helped make your craft space perfect!  As soon as I start, there will be before and after pics coming!!  Can’t WAIT!!!

Peace out peeps.

2016

Hey hey everyone!

We are officially in the new year and hopefully recovering from the mad crazy of the holiday season.  I know that for me, yesterday was one of the laziest days I have had in MONTHS.  Not only did I not leave the house for the entire day, but I didn’t work on any projects.

That’s a bold faced lie.

I did try…a meager attempt at best…to make the crumbling storm cellar entrance slightly more weather tight before winter actually gets to Ohio. But, let me just inform you…the BIG GAP insulation foam spray stuff….not nearly BIG enough to fix the problem.  So, onto plan B, which I’m not sure what it is yet.  But as soon as I know, I’ll let you know.

I did end up creating for the day.  I read about something kinda cool a temperature blanket.

What?!?!? You ask!!  A blanket that regulates to the temperature???

Ok, not quite that cool, but needless to say, fun to make!

IMG_20160101_194713468

You can use the standard chart, found at this link… Temperature Blankets

Or you can make your own chart, which is TOTALLY what I did.  I followed it loosely, just staying within the general colors designated those temperature ranges.  Because I knew I would be binge watching TV all day, I decided I wanted to go back and start with December.  Also, because we had one of the coolest (and I don’t mean temperature wise) Decembers on record in Ohio that I kinda wanted to document in the blanket.   So, I used Weather Underground to find the conditions starting December 1, 2015.

So, as I work on it, I’ll keep you posted.  This blanket will eventually be on my Etsy Site, as soon as I get it done!

SUCCESS!!

Well, it’s official!  We had the first ever event at Legacy Studio.  It wasn’t related to Art at all, or even being creative, but it was most definitely part of creating a legacy.  Family, friends, food and fun…and a GORGEOUS fall Ohio day, it doesn’t get much better, truly.

IMG_20151108_171232398_HDR

Huge thanks to my Momma.  She rocks.  I’m trying to convince her that she should start a party planning business.  What she did to make this event happen…AMAZING!

IMG_20151108_133434376_HDR

My Daddy-O…couldn’t have done it without him and the abrupt change of plans.  He was literally the knight in shining armor who saved the day!  I don’t have a good pic of him from the day and I’m sure he won’t be too upset if he’s not advertised to the world!

SW…you know who you are.  I’m sure you wouldn’t care if I put you on blast, but regardless…THANK YOU!  Between you and the photographer, the day would have not been documentated, or gone nearly as smoothly!

Jack…thanks to them, there are pictures for you to enjoy from your balmy new dig!

The official event photographer! Everything was taken from the vantage point of a 6 year old! LOVE IT!
The official event photographer! Everything was taken from the vantage point of a 6 year old! LOVE IT!

Finally, to EVERYONE who came out and enjoyed the day with me, THANK YOU!  Personal thank you notes will be coming, but honestly, the couch was far more inviting last night than writing thank you notes.  No, seriously, this is a HUGE, far-fetched crazy idea I’m trying to put together.  Seeing your faces, feeling you fill the house with your love and support, just reminds me why I want to try to make this happen.  It needs to happen.  There are too many wonderful experiences we let slip by because we are just frankly too busy with everything else.

Oh wait…how could I forget!?!?!?!?!

Thanks to the mutts…for reminding me how spoiled you truly are!

The aftermath...
The aftermath…

Now that the party is over, get ready!  Lots of work will be starting and I’m hoping for some input from everyone on some decisions, stay tuned!

Today is the Day!!!

Welcome everyone!

I guess I should start with introductions!  My name is Lyndsey and I could be called crazy.  Truthfully.

About 6 weeks ago, I found a historic piece of property and call it karma, insanity, passion…whatever you will, I knew I needed to own it.  So, today is the day.  I get the keys today!!  To what is, in my humble opinion, the coolest old house and barn around.  Now, I can be honest.  it’s rough around the edges.  The worst house you’ve ever seen, nooooo….but needs some serious TLC, yes!  The first step is the eviction of all of creepy crawlers who have been calling it home over the last few months.

Over the new few days, weeks, years and even decades (LOL!!), I am hoping to document this journey.  You will hopefully get to know me and my level and passion for these old homes and help me create my legacy.  There are lots of ideas and hopes rolling around in this head of mine, so…today is the day!  I’m so excited and scared at the same time, I can hardly stand it.  Check out my website and Facebook/Instagram for more pictures of projects.  This blogging thing is new to me, so please forgive me learning curve!

**Before I leave…

A HUGE thank you to all of my friends and family who have been so patient and tolerant of my panic attacks, paranoia of change and overall lack of confidence in this project.  Your support has been tremendous and without you, I would not be here today.  Now, you’re not done…any of you!  Get a rag and some cleaning supplies, we start on Sunday!  Oh, and your pay…how’s pizza sound?????  LOVE YOU ALL!
