Mini Pallet Recap!

Oh. My. Goodness.

In the last 48 hours here in Ohio, I have felt the first signs of Fall.  The crispness in the air, the golden leaves laying on the grass, the first head cold of the season, the snakes moving into the dining room…

So, last night, I slept almost 9 hours.  Whether it was because it was finally perfect sleeping weather or the fact that I was literally exhausted, it was wonderful!

Last Sunday, I hosted a great mini-pallet painting class at the house.  I really can’t express to anyone, besides my ever-patient mother, how stressful having the classes can be.  Between prepping for the class, cleaning house, making food and then teaching….there are MANY moments I wonder if it is worth it.

But then, everyone shows up, the laughter begins, the creativity starts and it’s just wonderful to see everyone have so much fun making things!

With being back to school for the last couple of weeks, prepping for the class was even more challenging!  But, it all got done and I think they turned out great!

I started by cutting apart pallets to make these mini-pallet canvases to paint.  It was a labor of love to say the least.  But just like everything else, once I got the first few made, they were pretty easy to put together.

After a few solid hours working in the new and improved Girl Cave, I was well on my way to being ready for class.

IMG_20160825_213736710

Now, for the heart attack of this story.

At the time I was wrapping up, it was about 10 pm.  I headed in the house determined to knock one or two more things off of my To Do list.  So, I quickly decided I would water the plants (sometimes remembering to do that can be harder than you think!).  Got my watering can, headed into the dining room.

To find this bastard.  **Warning…there is one cuss word.**

So, needless to say, after beating the poor thing to death with a flip flop.  I called it a day!  lol!

Anyway, back to the class.  Everyone did an amazing job!  It was the first time that I offered for everyone to make something they would prefer (instead of me selecting the theme).  It was great!  Plus, this way, I knew for sure that everyone would be able to take home something they would really enjoy to have in their home.

IMG_20160828_170114663

Although I like to pretend my dining room is more formal and fancy…I love seeing it covered with creativity.

Now, you’re probably wondering why it’s so dark?  Because not only was it one of the hottest days of the summer (and there have been PLENTY) but we lost power after a storm rolled through.

These women were such troopers.  It was sticky and hot and dark.  They were rock stars!

Just look at what we made!

IMG_20160828_171707639_HDR

Because of the loss of power, I wasn’t able to get a group picture…but here are some of the other gems!

Plus, this darling!  She had a bonus day…she even lost a tooth while she was at class!IMG_20160828_175507281

She also won the award for the most paintbrushes used.

Ever.

IMG_20160828_180425335

Overall, I couldn’t be happier.

No worries, I have already started planning the next class.  Not to mention, I still have people interested in doing another pallet class…so it looks like the work will go on!

More to come…

Fall wrap up is on full swing…so be patient with my lack of blogging.  I am sure by the time December rolls around, I’ll be driving you crazy again with all of my random thoughts on life.

Peace out peeps!

Where does time go??

My deepest apologies everyone!  I took a break from life and I didn’t realize so much time has passed since my last post.

I took a few days and went camping with a dear friend and let’s be honest, I needed it!  But no worries, life was jam-packed every minute leading up to the trip and it’s been non-stop since I returned.

So, let’s get caught up!

Door color.  I know, you’ve all been suffering from sleepless nights contemplating what color I could have possibly selected!  Well, let me put your curiosity to rest.

The gorgeous spruce green was the winner!  Now, only 4 more doors to go!  Every layer of paint added seems to bring her (I have decided the house is a female) shine out a little more.

Then there was hay.  307 bales total were put up in the barn over Father’s Day weekend.  Along with judging the car show at Stan Hywet.

This is my super happy face after loading a trailer in 90 degree weather, and this was only load #1 of 4.

Then I taught my first painting class at the house and if I do say so myself, I thought it was pretty amazing! These ladies all were so cool to work with!

IMG_20160623_192905316

I was so impressed with the level of work they created.  Especially since this was a first opportunity to paint for some of them!

Our interpretation of poppy fields!

Then somewhere in the week, this other little project started, because lord knows, sticking with one thing and finishing it is too easy.  I am super excited about it, but because it looks like I am crazy at this point…I won’t show you any more pictures until it’s completely done.

But let’s just say, I am taking re-purposing to a whole new level.

IMG_20160621_192729133

Finally, the big project.

The storm cellar.

We have now completed two hugely successful work days on this project. We are scheduled for 3 more days next week and hopefully it will be pretty much done by that point.

IMG_20160624_095015282
This was the first piece being moved!

I CAN NOT express how much better it already looks and that now, I even have hope that it’s going to be stunning when it’s reconstructed.  I am actually thrilled that it’s location is right by the main entrance to the house, because I want to showcase this amazing feature of the home.

You’ll hear more about the gentleman helping with the project later, but I just want to put a massive public thank you out there to Mr. T.  Truly sir, this project would have been dead in the water the first moment I dropped a stone on my foot.  Your knowledge, experience and tenacity have all been pivotal factors to this coming together.  Not to mention, the life lessons you have already instilled in me are priceless.

I’m going to hold back on the rest of my flattery until the project is done!

So, with all of the catching up, it brings us right into the best holiday of the summer in my opinion!

Please have a wonderful, safe and fun 4th of July.

Wine Cork Recap

Hey everyone!

So, we had another great class last Sunday (holy crap, I can’t believe it’s been almost a week already!) making lots of fun stuff out of wine corks!  I wanted to take a moment and share some of the photos.

I was so excited because it was a nice day out and we were able to get all the doors open on the house…which was a nice change from being cooped up all winter.

IMG_20160501_132827124

I’m really looking forward to enjoying more fresh air in the house in the next couple of months.

Granted, I’m saying that now, before it is July and 90 degrees and I’m dying of heat. Oh yeah…no AC in this old bad boy of a house.  At least not yet. Hee hee hee!

IMG_20160501_153131136

We had a small turn out…which is something I am struggling with, but more on that later.

The cork fun was great.  Minus trying to hot glue corks to glass.  Which, I will throw out to you…anyone have an experience in this area?  When I found this craft, it recommended using the E600 craft glue.  So, being the prepared, planning type person I am…gave it a try.  I HATED it.  I did not realize that it took 42 days to set up.  Literally… 42 days.

Well, that’s not gonna work.

Especially since these classes are designed to be completed in one afternoon.  So, out came my trusty 1982 hot glue gun.

IMG_20160428_202404886

Let’s just talk about that glue gun for a second.

It is unregulated.

It’s a rebel.

It’s dangerous.

Needless to say, we have a lot in common.

All of that translates to… small children should DEFINITELY never get anywhere near it.  Like they shouldn’t even be in the same house.  Maybe even the same zip code.  Many adults should be wary.  Brave adults should be prepared to loose a layer of skin.  There is your warning.  You’re welcome.

On my samples, it worked great!  So, I thought that the hot glue option was the answer to all of my prayers (well, many of them at the immediate moment).   I thought for sure I was prepared and good to go for the class.  Quickly figured out that the low-temp glue guns are crap. Here I am trying to be safe and all…pointless.  The low-temp guns were not beefy enough for this project.  So, for those who wanted to try it, out came the unregulated glue gun.  This is Holly.  She still had function of two of her fingers at this point.  She even seems happy!

IMG_20160501_160421731

Everyone had fun…no one was seriously injured…so in my book….that’s a WIN!

IMG_20160501_160513197

I really had a blast and I love sharing my hobby with these wonderful people!

13124656_1700877566857102_8292347971877851293_n

So, off to go plan the next class….looks like the next one will be a painting class!  Watch the Facebook  page for more info!  I’m excited, I have a fun idea for what we can paint!

Lots going on outside at the house, can’t wait to share pics!  Plus, I’m down to something like 18 days left of school…so soon, it will be full time work at the house!  Get ready!!!

Peace out peeps.

Mistint Paint Rocks

Hey strangers!

Sorry for the delay in writing.  As usual, life is getting a little crazy right now.  Which I knew would happen.  The weather is actually getting nice, which translates to I’ll be spending way more time outside than working on my social media stuff.  But I will be around, because I have a sneaking feeling that lots of fun stuff is going to be happening!

So, for anyone who actually reads this rambling mess, you were aware of how much I fell in love with mistinted paint when I painted my kitchen over Winter break.   I was thoroughly impressed with how amazing the color turned out in the space.  Who knew that me…the OCD, planning, thinking through every aspect of every decision would throw caution to the wind and pick up a random gallon of paint for any room in my house.

IMG_20151223_091958610

Which leads me to the next chapter in the book of mistint/mistake paint.

This past Monday, we were flooded with a ton of rain.

I mean a ton. So, I knew that I wouldn’t be able to work outside for a few days.  I decided to get a couple of random errands done.  Including one to my favorite store…Home Depot. (**Home Depot…for the shameless plug, feel free to drop a gift certificate in the mail!  hee hee hee!!)

268a384d99c97a6c406ca6bbb425e8ce

And what an AWESOME decision that was!  I hit the JACKPOT!!  The mistint/mistake shelf had 3 gallons of paint that were perfect!IMG_20160411_161224900

Perfect for what, I am not entirely sure, but they are mine now!!  I mean, seriously, 3 gallons of paint for $36, you can not beat that!  Plus one of them is a gallon of the Behr Marquee fancy paint…be jealous.

I ran home anxious with anticipation to see what I was going to paint and where I was going to paint.  I could not wait!

Although, I have to admit, I did not entirely think through this plan.  When I started painting the living room at 6:00….on a school night…I wasn’t really thinking through the choice.  All I could envision was my beautiful, cheap paint covering those ugly white walls!

Might not have been the best choice, in terms of planning.

But it was most definitely the right choice as the new color for the living room!

IMG_20160411_180052250_HDR

I have to say, I don’t think I’m ever going to stress about color selection for a room again. Allowing fate…the mistakes of a store…whatever you want to call it, dictate my decor choices…it’s super fun!

IMG_20160411_193909069

It is really hard to get a good picture of the room and there are still plenty of things that I want to work on.  But we all know how that goes, that list will never end, right?

IMG_20160412_065545365

I am also realizing that I am showing you pics of my house in all states of disarray!  Please don’t judge!

So, at the end of this, another room is painted.  I have two more gallons of mistake paint left for two more rooms…so, who knows where it will go!  Watch at see!

On a total side note, there are lots of things are in the works, so please check back!

IMG_20160411_200114185_HDR

Parting view of the gorgeous sunset this week.  I love my life.

Peace out peeps.

Never Enough. Ever.

I realized as I wrote that title, that it sounds terrible.  But hopefully, I’ll be able to clarify by the end of the post and it won’t seem like I am horrible, greedy person!  lol!

I am finishing up my Spring Break and as I review what my To Do list was and what I actually got done, I realized it’s never enough.  Never enough time, energy, and even creativity!  So, then it became a matter of really enjoying what I did accomplish and taking pleasure in the fact that I was able to make SOME progress.  IMG_20160331_143933744_HDR

I started work on my new craft table, which was an extra 9 foot tall door from downstairs.  I will be getting pieces of glass to cover it and I think it’s going to be a great workspace!  I am super excited about it.

IMG_20151015_215447_05

Ironically, on October 15th…I moved this very door from almost the exact same spot it is in now.  When I bought the house, the doors had been stored in what is now the craft room.  Well, I wanted them hanging in their original door frames.  But once I lived in the house for a while, I realized I didn’t want all of these extra doors.  So, back upstairs it went.  I think it’s much more handy as a table!

Have I mentioned…those doors are extremely heavy!

I also got my craft closet one step closer to being done. It still needs plaster work done and painted.  But at least I have started to be able to put things away to make more space in the main room.

IMG_20160331_143918219

So, sometimes, it’s the very smallest things that you have to focus on.  But it’s very easy to feel like there is never enough time.  When that starts to happen, just remind yourself that every little bit counts and you’re only in race against yourself.  Not the world.  Not the expectations.  Not anyone else.  Just you.  So, be patient and forgiving of yourself daily.

As a friendly reminder, I woke up this morning to a fresh blanket of April snow.  There is something so refreshing and calming about snow.  I kinda needed it this morning.

IMG_20160403_072155166_HDR

Which translates to….we are hunkered down for a nice quiet morning 🙂

IMG_20160403_072311411

Enjoy the day everyone.

Peace out peeps.

Rainy Day Crafts

So, sometimes, when I am preparing for my classes, I start to wonder if they are worth it.  I mean, between the shopping and the prep work and the clean-up, it can be daunting at times.  But then I remind myself, that the point of this is that I want to create an escape for people.  A place to go and enjoy the afternoon, eat, mingle and create!  When I remind myself of that, each class is perfect.  And I love it.  All of it.

A big shout out to Momma D for her amazing prep and help with the food.  Hands down, might be everyone’s favorite part of the class.  I truly don’t know what I would do without her being a part of these classes…and hey, my life in general.  She’s pretty remarkable.

For the record, I did help make the food.  But she makes all the really pretty things. Like those TINY tomatoes that she hallows out and stuffs with yummy stuff.

IMG_20160313_135630283_HDR

Then when everyone shows up, it just makes it even better.  There was grazing, chatting, lots of laughing and just general relaxation!

The best part was seeing everyone put their own spin on their wreaths.  I love seeing the individuality!

IMG_20160313_152203694

So, we had a great afternoon.  Ate way too much food and laughed really hard!  To the ladies who participated…you totally made my day!  Thank you!

IMG_20160313_154710968

Now, back to full-on warfare with Petunia/Petie the skunk.

Peace out peeps.

YES!!!!!!! SUCCESS!!!!

Today was a big day for me!  When I started this entire venture a few months ago, it seemed ages away that I would actually be able to host a class.  Well, today was the day!!

I hosted an ornament making class and I think it went really well.  I am so lucky to have such a wonderful group of people around me, especially people who enjoy being creative as much as I do!

IMG_20151229_122545256
Everything just waiting to make a mess!

There was food, crafting and friendship…does it get any better than that????

IMG_20151230_104023726_HDR
Can’t have a party without cookies!

I am just so glad that it was a success.  I think everyone who came had fun, I got to learn a little more about how classes in the future can go.  Overall though…this is the beginning of a long and beautiful journey!

I  CAN NOT WAIT! 🙂
