a mom tribute.

I am just going to put this out there, in case y’all didn’t know. I love my mom.

I mean, LOVE HER! I have been told over the years that there is nothing like the relationship between mother and daughter. It is truly something that only gets better with time, particularly in my experience.

I mean, who wouldn’t love this face???

As I have aged (so gracefully btw, thanks to her phenomenal genes) , I realize more and more how much that woman means to me. I would even say that I am more dependent on her being in my life now, then I ever was before.

Frankly, I am sure I am not alone in that feeling.

I think it also becomes more and more apparent to each of us on a individual basis when we start to lose people who are as close as family. Then the entire timeline and shortness of life seems to be compressed and forced upon us. Yes, there are a lot of seconds and minutes in the lives we are given….but they go so damn fast.

Recently, I lost someone very near and dear to me. She literally was my second mom and she was best friends with my mom for a very long time. Finding out she had passed and witnessing not only her family’s grief, but my mom’s and my own sadness was literally one of the hardest things I have had to do so far in my life.

However, it also made me look at my mom on a whole other level. The daughter of my “second mom” and I are only two days apart in age. Our mom’s were in lamaze classes together. The bond started long ago and has lasted. At the funeral, I kept watching the daughter and thinking, I don’t know how she is doing it. I don’t know if I could do it. It’s her MOM. It’s my MOM. There is literally not another person who has had my back like my mom.

My Momma is one of the most talented, strongest and loving people I know. She is always there with an idea, a solution, or an attack plan. She has taught me how to look at problems and just figure it out. There is always resolution, you just need to work it out.

The problem lies in what do you do for someone who is THAT important to you! We are lame and I making dinner and hopefully we’ll do something fun after that. Seemingly it is a tie between playing a game and shooting guns (the brother thinks that is something mom would love, I am not sure he even knows who she is!). But that is how we celebrate my mom. Whatever we do is NEVER going to be enough for what she has done for us as a family.

What do you do for your mom’s? SHARE!! I love hearing it!

If you don’t see another post from me for a while, it is because she has broken all of my fingers after writing this tribute to her.

Peace out peeps.

This is for you Aunt S.

Yep, here I am. I had to charge the laptop and make a point of sitting down to formulate a thought. All for you Aunt S.

Actually, in reality, I owe you a huge thank you!! I have discovered that over the course of the last three years blogging (and I use that term LOOSELY) I have learned how easy it is to let large amounts of time pass between entries.

Call it life, call it laziness ….call it whatever the hell you want…it happens. All the damn time.

So, the back story is, I saw Aunt S. at our yearly family Christmas event and right off the whip she said, “There is nothing there!”. Then the real reality check, “Not since August and the birds!”.

In fairness, I did sneak a short entry in for November.

BUT THAT’S NOT THE POINT.

So, thanks Aunt S. I don’t think you’ll ever realize how much you make me smile and how much I love ya!

I don’t like to do resolutions, but being that it is January 1st, I feel compelled to at least say that I will try harder to be more present…and frankly, bore the crap out of y’all!

I do actually have a fun project to share. Years ago, I inherited my Grandma D’s china. The story went that she remembers this china being shipped from England in crates with straw. All I knew about it was I was in love with it.

I moved out years ago and I have NEVER made an attempt to move this stuff out of my mom’s house. I was firmly convinced some freak accident would happen and it would be destroyed.

Two weeks ago, I got brave and took 12 pieces to my house for my round of Book Club.

It inspired me. I immediately started trolling all of the Buy/Sell ads for the perfect piece of furniture to house it all.

Then I found it!

I recruited mom and dad (and for the record a cute little dog named Brave) to ride along with me to go snatch it up! We met a wonderful woman who shared the story of the piece and how it had been in her husband’s family for generations.

As soon as it was unloaded, I headed straight to my mom’s to round up the rest of the china and prayed hard to get it all home in one piece!

Which I did…for the record!!

I LOVE the final result! I don’t mean to sound like a braggy bitch, but it makes my heart so happy to see it all on display after literally decades.

I have also be blessed with watching this little gem over my break! So, from my crazy home to yours….

Happy New Year’s and make every day count.

Peace out peeps

Welp.

Well, would you look at that.  It is almost December!!

So, I have a question for everyone….what’s everyone stance on Christmas decorations?? Specifically Christmas trees.

Not holiday trees either.

I am not hugely religious, but I have a wicked old-school traditional streak that runs through me.  It’s hard to modify the name of one my of favorite things ever.

I personally am addicted to Christmas trees.

I just returned back to school from my Thanksgiving break.  Over the course of my 5 day (really actually only 4 days…) I managed to decorate a total of 5 trees, 4 of which were at my house.  Friends and I were discussing it this morning and it is kinda crazy.  I don’t have holiday parties, I don’t really entertain…but I LOVE the house being decorated and enjoying the lights!

In years past, I would spend Black Friday decorating the house.  However, I knew that with everything, I should start to break it into chunks.  The themes of these two are “Ice Queen” &  “Thin Blue Line”.

img_20181120_182238

Then the big one got done!  I found my new little tree stand at my fav Hobby Lobby.  Don’t be like Momma D. and point out that the plaid doesn’t line up in this picture!

Love you Momma D.!

img_20181120_204529

Just for the record….this is the kind of chaos that ensues when I decorate…plus you can see the little kitchen tree, even though it’s not done!

img_20181122_174825

Then throw in Momma D’s tree for more fun!  Excuse the look on my face, it was after Turkey Dinner and I had a sore throat and was TIRED!

I even have two little trees in my classroom!  I can’t get away from them.  One of my life mantras is to do all the things that make your heart happy and Christmas trees make my heart happy!

So, do me a favor peeps!  Share your pics!  Add your comments!

Most of all, do what makes your heart happy!

Peace out peeps.

checking in.

Hey peeps.

How ya’ll doing?

So, I have literally NOTHING to write about.  No crazy “animal-in-the-house” stories.  No “this-is-the-insane-project-I-am-into-now” stories.  No “the-dating-world-is-slowly-killing-me” stories.

That’s a lie.  There are always those stories, but truly…it’s a broken record.

So, I just wanted to drop a line and see how everyone is doing?

Reading anything good?

What are you planning in your gardens this season?

Are you working on anything cool?

Do YOU have a fun dating story?!?!

What’s really gonna suck is if NO ONE responds to me.  So, you know you wanna!  lol!

Have a great Monday!  It’s the last day of April and time is FLYING by!  I promise, next post will be more interesting!

Peace out peeps.

I think I have found my niche.

Hey y’all!

So, how is everyone on this gorgeous Saturday morning?

Last weekend, I hosted another painting class at the house…and oh we are starting to have so much fun!

I think I have found my niche!

So, when I started the classes, I wanted to do a variety of classes and I can’t say that I still won’t.  But the masses have spoken.
They like to paint.

A lot!

So, now when it comes to the painting classes, I basically let everyone tell me what THEY would like to paint!  That way, I know for certain, that they are taking something home with them that they will LOVE!

IMG_20161030_171159848.jpg

I have got to tell you…I love how creative and talented everyone is!  It’s so exciting to see everyone work and encouraging each other to make such wonderful things!

Not to mention, everyone gets to serious and into it!

Next class up…we will be painting on glass!  Check out the Facebook event if you’re local and are interested!

Oh and memories…One year ago this weekend was the Open House party at the house!

See, organized and AMAZING!

So…as usual…thanks again for all of your support!

Peace out peeps.

Whew. Part 2.

Yesterday, I started to share the story of our big family reunion over the holiday weekend.  Because it’s my blog and I make the rules around this place (about the only place I can!) I decided to focus on the stunning family home first.  I mean, that’s important stuff right there!

FB_IMG_1464572461727

But while I was going through the pics from the day, I realized there was so much else that happened that was EQUALLY as cool!  I know, it’s hard to comprehend…but my family…is awesome!  We are definitely a group of talented, passionate characters!

We like food.  Not just any food either, but good food.  Really good food.

So, the prized guest as this event was Mr. Pig.

IMG_20160528_153523502

While my Uncle was toiling over Mr. Pig….my Momma was toiling over the Mini Piggies!

IMG_20160528_131542874

Oh. My. Gosh.

I know, cuter than you can handle huh?

It gets better!!

Wait for it……..

You know, you really can’t do “Wait for it…” in a blog?

Because I can’t control your pace at reading.

Well, I guess I sorta can….

BECAUSE I JUST DID!!!!! LOL!!!!

Ok, what you’ve been waiting for!

IMG_20160528_131555293

Look at their little butts!!  The tails!!!  I mean, come on…that’s adorable!

IMG_20160528_131605651

Now, here’s the tale that goes with these darlings.  They were made out of a quilt that originally came from the farmhouse.  My mom took the quilt apart and made these pigs for all of the 1st cousins to have an heirloom from the farm.

Talk about heritage and tradition, huh?  It runs deep in our clan.

Even the rag rug this piggy is laying on.  It was made on my great-great-10x-grandfather’s loom.  Which, I currently have in my classroom at school for my students to use!

IMG_20160601_104331292

You know what else runs deep in our clan?

Crazy.

Truth.

I mean, it’s in my veins…I feel it, can’t avoid it.  I just feel bad for anyone near me when the need to do/make something hits.

Like my Momma.

It was documented.  The picture of her working on these at 3:15 in the morning the night before the reunion (for the record, she stayed up until 5)

But I love her.

Plus, I love oxygen…so I won’t share the pic dad sent.

Now all of the Mini Piggies are in homes with our family members and hopefully will continue to be passed down through the generations.

Lucky for me, my family also LOVES photos….so I’ll leave you with this little blast from the past.

Me. Circa 1997.  Good thing I still love bibs!  Btw…2016 is the “Summer of the Bib-Overall”. Watch for it.   Big news.

Peace out peeps.
