Happy Thanksgiving Peeps.

Good morning everyone! HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

happy-thanksgiving-timeline-covers

So, for those of you who are busy throwing that turkey in the oven and finishing up the preparations for an amazing meal…THANK YOU!!!

That’s Momma D. in my world.

But she doesn’t trust me with making much.  Actually, she trusts me….she is just so damn good at everything that I don’t even bother. I am charge of setting the table.  Which honestly, is better, it harnesses my creative juices!

It’s good to have goals, right?!?!?

One year ago, I was freshly moved into the house and was feeling the anxiety of my first impending winter in the house.  I wrote a  blog post where I managed to come up with a list of 5 things to be thankful for, after a lengthy rant obviously!  A year later, I still agree.  Granted, my first five were laughable, but that’s the joy of blogging, it doesn’t let you forget anything!

So, I think this is going to be my new tradition.  Not necessarily a month of writing things your Thankful for, but just a quick list.  It’s good to keep things in perspective.

Here goes…I am thankful for

  1. You.  My peeps.  My family.  My friends.  My inner circle.  Listen, if you’re lucky enough to be in that world (or really any part of my world), you are subjected to constant shenanigans and venting and randomness.  Because of you, I continue to function at a fairly successful level.
  2. Mr. T.  He isn’t going to read this, but without him, the storm cellar would have never gotten done.  Not to mention, through the process he has become quite the friend and confidant.  Thank you Mr. T.
  3. My new fancy window frames.  Now, I don’t have the whole house done yet, but they are really making a difference so far!  So, that’s exciting.  I promise, that will be my next blog post.
  4. Thanksgiving itself.  As I have aged, this is quite possibly the BEST holiday.  It’s about the important stuff.  The people.  Not to mention….amazing food.  I can’t wait to set the table in a few hours.
  5. This one is going to sound weird, but the entire last year.  This last year has taught me so much about myself, it’s crazy!  But each and every experience has been amazing and I have loved every step of the stressful journey!

Oh and by the way…. There is a 10% sale currently running in my Etsy Shop!!  Check it out!  I just made a few more items yesterday, I’ll have them posted tomorrow.

Also, while you’re over there, feel free to post a review if you have purchased something from me!

Peace out peeps.

Sunday Mornings

Morning everyone!

I am sitting here this morning working on canning beans from my garden.  I am praying and hoping that my first experience will a pressure canner is nothing but wonderful!  lol!

IMG_20160717_091423435_HDR

But it allows me a moment to be “present”.  I just finished paying bills and I am sitting here with the door open and the fragrance of cow is wafting around.  Mr. T. would love it right now!!  I get to take a moment and enjoy the progress of this summer.

I mean, just the success of the beans alone, it’s pretty remarkable!

I shouldn’t call it a success until I am done canning them, huh?

Anyway.  The beans are a result of my first big girl garden.

IMG_20160711_195359917

I pretty stinking proud of it.  Bonus, it’s actually producing vegetables.

I feel so confident, I am starting a herb garden by the house today.

I know.  It’s awesome.

So, in the spirit of being present….and reminiscing all at the same time…it’s hard to believe how much has occurred in 8 months.  The house is coming along. The deck/patio area are almost done in the back.  The storm cellar is just waiting for a drain and a new door (once completed, I will give the full recap of that project!)  We are redesigning the entrance steps on Wednesday.  School starts in 14 short days, so I am in the big push to wrap up the major projects for the summer.

Another perk…I am starting love living out in the open and looking forward to more adventures daily.

Next up….I think I am going to be a Chicken Complex so I can have chickens next spring.

Anyway, it’s just a great, quiet morning. It’s actually a nice temperature…which is glorious without AC in the house.  It’s just nice.  Peaceful.  Whole.  Wonderful.

So, I hope you are having just as wonderful of a morning.  It’s a great way to start the day!

I am seriously starting to wonder about this pressure canning.   It is  definitely an exercise in patience.

Peace out peeps.

Whew. Part 2.

Yesterday, I started to share the story of our big family reunion over the holiday weekend.  Because it’s my blog and I make the rules around this place (about the only place I can!) I decided to focus on the stunning family home first.  I mean, that’s important stuff right there!

FB_IMG_1464572461727

But while I was going through the pics from the day, I realized there was so much else that happened that was EQUALLY as cool!  I know, it’s hard to comprehend…but my family…is awesome!  We are definitely a group of talented, passionate characters!

We like food.  Not just any food either, but good food.  Really good food.

So, the prized guest as this event was Mr. Pig.

IMG_20160528_153523502

While my Uncle was toiling over Mr. Pig….my Momma was toiling over the Mini Piggies!

IMG_20160528_131542874

Oh. My. Gosh.

I know, cuter than you can handle huh?

It gets better!!

Wait for it……..

You know, you really can’t do “Wait for it…” in a blog?

Because I can’t control your pace at reading.

Well, I guess I sorta can….

BECAUSE I JUST DID!!!!! LOL!!!!

Ok, what you’ve been waiting for!

IMG_20160528_131555293

Look at their little butts!!  The tails!!!  I mean, come on…that’s adorable!

IMG_20160528_131605651

Now, here’s the tale that goes with these darlings.  They were made out of a quilt that originally came from the farmhouse.  My mom took the quilt apart and made these pigs for all of the 1st cousins to have an heirloom from the farm.

Talk about heritage and tradition, huh?  It runs deep in our clan.

Even the rag rug this piggy is laying on.  It was made on my great-great-10x-grandfather’s loom.  Which, I currently have in my classroom at school for my students to use!

IMG_20160601_104331292

You know what else runs deep in our clan?

Crazy.

Truth.

I mean, it’s in my veins…I feel it, can’t avoid it.  I just feel bad for anyone near me when the need to do/make something hits.

Like my Momma.

It was documented.  The picture of her working on these at 3:15 in the morning the night before the reunion (for the record, she stayed up until 5)

But I love her.

Plus, I love oxygen…so I won’t share the pic dad sent.

Now all of the Mini Piggies are in homes with our family members and hopefully will continue to be passed down through the generations.

Lucky for me, my family also LOVES photos….so I’ll leave you with this little blast from the past.

IMG_20160528_181555892

Me. Circa 1997.  Good thing I still love bibs!  Btw…2016 is the “Summer of the Bib-Overall”. Watch for it.   Big news.

Peace out peeps.

Whew. Part 1.

Well, I don’t know about you, but the holiday weekend was a hum-dinger, wasn’t it?

For maybe the 4th time in almost 5 years, I took Saturday off from my second job to go to my Momma’s family reunion.

I can’t lie.  I was only really excited about one part of it.

Seeing the family homestead.

FB_IMG_1464572478811

Ok, that’s a lie.  I was really excited to see family too.  Oh, and to eat.  For sure…eating is important in my family!

But, back to the house.  My Great, Great, x10 Grandparents built this place.  As my Grandpa B. told me, first there was a small one-room cabin, but then they upgraded to a tw0-story cabin before they finally built the current house in 1875.

Now, when the current member of my family moved in (about 8 years ago) it was in less than stellar condition.  It was suffering from the same fate so many old jems do….age.  Flat out, age….it was wearing her down.  Fading her beauty.  But then came along Cousin M….who saved her.  Hands down.

This home is STUNNING!

IMG_20160528_183103867_HDR

The farmhouse is so statuesque.  Bonus, Cousin M. has some serious style in her decor choices.  The entire house has been brought into the 21st century…trust me I was taking notes.

They have Central Air.

SHUT UP.

I know right???

I am jealous beyond words on that fact.

Oh…and jealous of THIS bathroom???? (hey Aunt Pitbull…you’re still safe!)

1A

At one point, 9 of us were just hanging out in there.  it’s so …so….charming?  Elegant?  Roomy?  All of the above!

This home is so tastefully done, I just couldn’t help drooling over her decor.  I tried to wipe most of my drool marks off of her furniture….but just look at it!

Not to mention, just all of the overall updates and structural repairs that had to be done to the house (there were years of strip mining damage to the house that needed attention).

So, this is my HUGE thank you to Cousin M, her husband and family for saving a piece of our family heritage.  How cool that our family has lived in this house for 141 years!

Just check out this photo from 1910 in front of the farmhouse!

IMG_20160528_192651199

With all of that being said, it was inspirational to see her back to her old glory.  She is back to standing tall on the hill, showing the world she could stand for another 141 years.  Without the people to love these old places and try to save them…their fate would be much worse.

So, thank you.  To each and every person who has fallen for the old house, barn, business or store front.  Someone…or many someones….probably thought you were crazy.  They might have even told you to your face.  But, if these walls could talk, they would be thanking us endlessly and beaming with pride to share their secrets with future generations!

There will be a Part 2 to this day….just too much fun to share in one little old post! Including the story about these little darling oinkers!

IMG_20160528_131542874

Peace out peeps.

Never Enough. Ever.

I realized as I wrote that title, that it sounds terrible.  But hopefully, I’ll be able to clarify by the end of the post and it won’t seem like I am horrible, greedy person!  lol!

I am finishing up my Spring Break and as I review what my To Do list was and what I actually got done, I realized it’s never enough.  Never enough time, energy, and even creativity!  So, then it became a matter of really enjoying what I did accomplish and taking pleasure in the fact that I was able to make SOME progress.  IMG_20160331_143933744_HDR

I started work on my new craft table, which was an extra 9 foot tall door from downstairs.  I will be getting pieces of glass to cover it and I think it’s going to be a great workspace!  I am super excited about it.

IMG_20151015_215447_05

Ironically, on October 15th…I moved this very door from almost the exact same spot it is in now.  When I bought the house, the doors had been stored in what is now the craft room.  Well, I wanted them hanging in their original door frames.  But once I lived in the house for a while, I realized I didn’t want all of these extra doors.  So, back upstairs it went.  I think it’s much more handy as a table!

Have I mentioned…those doors are extremely heavy!

I also got my craft closet one step closer to being done. It still needs plaster work done and painted.  But at least I have started to be able to put things away to make more space in the main room.

IMG_20160331_143918219

So, sometimes, it’s the very smallest things that you have to focus on.  But it’s very easy to feel like there is never enough time.  When that starts to happen, just remind yourself that every little bit counts and you’re only in race against yourself.  Not the world.  Not the expectations.  Not anyone else.  Just you.  So, be patient and forgiving of yourself daily.

As a friendly reminder, I woke up this morning to a fresh blanket of April snow.  There is something so refreshing and calming about snow.  I kinda needed it this morning.

IMG_20160403_072155166_HDR

Which translates to….we are hunkered down for a nice quiet morning 🙂

IMG_20160403_072311411

Enjoy the day everyone.

Peace out peeps.

Being Thankful.

So, this being thankful thing.  It’s hard, isn’t it?  I mean, let’s be honest, there are moments, when it is hard to drudge up a quick list.  I have done the month of thanks before and on the whole, I try to keep things pretty positive in my life.  But, wow, there are just moments where you have to pause and think…seriously???  Do I need anymore challenges in life…NO!!!  lol!

Ok, so enough of the vent!  The point of this blog was to remember that some of the smallest things can be the ones you end up being most thankful for.

There will always be more things to do.

There will never be enough money.

There will never be enough time to spend with the ones you love.

There will always be that one “thing” that tries to break your groove.

BUT….

There will also be another chance to fix things.

There will always be another chance to make that time to spend with a loved one.

There will always be the feeling the moment something gets accomplished.

There will always be a chance to change your course.

So, please stop and just be thankful for the littlest things.  Those are the things that keep up going, minute-by-minute, day-by-day…

This is my quick list…

  1. A working furnance that isn’t going to kill me.
  2. Shelves in massive cabinets.
  3. My American flag flying from the house.
  4. A new light shining on the front of house, so what if it makes it look creepy.
  5. My first electric bill not being so scary that I want to cry!

So, if you had to list 5 of the littlest things to be thankful for…what would they be?

Does it make the house look creepy??
