Legacy Smegacy

Morning everyone…

I have been thinking a lot about this legacy stuff lately.  It really has been hitting home with me about what kind of legacy I would like to create.  Recently I have decided that I must be leaving  the crazy lady legacy.

I have some new neighbors that I met this past weekend.  It made me laugh that one of them immediately labeled me as a city girl with a little bit of country it in me.  So, it got me thinking….if I had to label myself, how exactly would I label myself?

Let me start  by stating that I hate labels.  In fact, I pride myself on breaking labels and normally look for ways to break the expectations that labels conjure up.  But, if there was one label I had to adopt…it would definitely be the “crazy” label.  It gives you a lot of room to be you.

I am so proud to be who I have become.  Not to sound egotistical.  But it’s true…To be hard working.  To be a friend.  To own my quirks.  To be ok in my not-so-perfect skin. It’s such an amazing feeling to be at peace with who you really are.

So, own it.  Be you.  Start today.

Be strong.  Be soft.  Binge watch TV.  Take a nap in a hammock.  Listen.  Feel unconditional love.  Eat Swenson’s.  Feel the sun.  Bake cookies.  Learn new things.  Listen to music.  Snuggle in blankets.  Hug a 4-legged furry friend. Enjoy a beverage.  Be smart.  Go shopping.  Get dirty.  Pamper yourself.  Work hard.  Help someone.  Drive fast.  Love the smallest moments. Stay away from drama.  Be a friend. Forgive. Stay the course (thanks Samantha for reminding me of this one) Own it. Own being you.

Most importantly, I follow this goal daily.

To go to bed at night knowing that I did the best I could with what I have.  I tried.  I tried really hard.  I might not be perfect.  I might make a ton of mistakes.   But somewhere in the course of the day, I did one or two things that were good.  Great even.  All in the effort to know that when my head hits that pillow, I can get my sleep knowing that tomorrow is another chance to do even better.

And just remember….You might not be everyone’s cup of tea…and that’s 100% ok.

Class tomorrow!!  MADE PREP MODE is going on!  Pics to come!

Peace out peeps!

happy friday.

Hey everyone,

I just wanted to take a second and check in on everyone (the two of you, plus my momma who read this!).  I don’t know about you, but it had been another INSANE, fun week in the life of Lyndsey (maybe that should be my book title?)

So, Petunia/Petie the Skunk update.

2243266516_skunk_xlarge

You know it he/she is….ANNOYING!!!

Attempts just this week to remove my squatter include:

  1. Setting a trap with yummy wet cat food = NOTHING
  2. BLARING music and full blast to annoy the critter all night long = NOTHING
  3. Allowing my dog to BARK and DIG at the floor relentlessly = NOTHING
  4. Ammonia filled rags near and around the area = NOTHING

So, this weekend.  I’m upping my game.  Full warfare combat is on.  This means that I will have to go to the basement and investigate ways to get light and the ammonia rags into the TINY crawl space.  Best options at this moment are balloons filled with little amounts of ammonia and a work light.  I am also going to try mothballs.

Good news, I think I have even talked myself out of trapping Petunia/Petie.  The last thing I want is to have to deal with a pissed off skunk.

In other news (notice I didn’t say “good” news), I went on a date.  That was comical.

He ended up having a “past”.  Not like one of the other guys I went out with a few years ago with… who ended up being a registered sex offender.  This guy had ONLY embezzled almost $500,000 from a small company.  You know it’s not good for you when one Google search of your name produces top results which include “FBI”. Too think, his biggest concern was whether or not I was gonna be a good kisser.

Ummmm…dude, your priorities are SLIGHTLY skewed.

But, MOST exciting for the week….

This weekend is the Wreath Making Class!!!!!

I have been really busy prepping this week and as usual have purchased WAY too many supplies…but supplies are like food, you can never have too much!

But, I’m really excited to have a class again! Check back to see how it goes…and thanks in advance to those who are coming out!

Remember…

You get to control your happiness.  Don’t take that responsibility lightly.

Peace out Peeps.

Day 100

And….drum roll please!!!!!!!!!!

I didn’t win the lottery…Just wanted to put all of your worries to rest my friends.

Because I like to reflect, a lot, on pretty much everything, this post is going to be full of rambling insights.

Since I didn’t win the lottery, I’m back to scraping together pennies and nickels (working towards dimes and quarters! lol!) for projects at the house.  More reading.  More pinning. More questions.  More conversations.  More ideas.

Rinse and repeat.

I get frustrated.  Really frustrated.  I wish I had more time…and funds…for the house.  But I keep telling myself to be patient, it will come together.   Eventually.  After 100 days of building my relationship with my old beauty (I think I should name her!), I am sad I haven’t done more.  But I realize that I really have gotten a lot done in a fairly short period (let me mention that as I compiled this list, I was even impressed as I remembered more and more things!)

I have painted the kitchen.

I cleaned out the attic!!

Held two wonderful events with friends and family getting a chance to meet the old beauty.

Just lived in it.

I built a great cabinet thingy out of recycled cabinets from the house.

Learned that snow comes in around the upstairs weird exterior door.

I realized that I REALLY hate the basement.  But I think it’s because I can’t wait to fix the storm cellar entrance and just clean the basement out.  It’s just gross.

I put shelves in the kitchen cabinets.

That the outlet in the dinning room might be haunted…but just the outlet!

Most of all, I have learned to be more patient.  To love everything more.

Even the hinges.

Ironically when I read her post, I realized that that’s it.  The first day I went through the house, I fell in LOVE with every tiny, minute detail that had survived the last 158 years.  It is those little details that keep reminding me it will be ok.  It will take time and I will be exhausted and broke for the rest of my existence, but it will be ok.

One of my favorite details is this light…I use it DAILY.  I might just keep it after the renovations!!IMG_20150908_172804593

So, next up.  I have Monday off of work.  The list is already extensive of things I would LOVE to get done.  But there will be a reno project of some sort being done!  Photos to come.

Until then…should I name the house???  Nickname it?  Something funny?  I mean, I know people name cars…why not houses?  Any suggestions?

What would YOU do????

So, big news in the world…

Have you heard about the lottery?  It’s up to an insane $675 million I guess!  Maybe more by now, that was the number I read hours ago.

Confession time.

I have a serious obsession with the lottery when it gets this high.  HOW CAN YOU NOT!?!?!?!?

It’s just so fun to dream, imagine, envision the life you could create for yourself and those around you! I was watching the news the other day and they were saying that you had better chances of having identical sextuplets.

Well, here’s my argument.

Someone always does win.  ALWAYS.  And if you don’t buy a ticket or two, the odds are WAY worse of not winning (math was NEVER a strong point with me!).

Plus, it’s a little cheap thrill in life.

Unlike this poor guy!

So, what would you do?  Where would you move?  Who would you help? Jump on board the dream boat and just have fun dreaming of the possibilities.  Our regular session with reality will start again as soon as someone…lucky bastard…wins!

But, while I was shopping for my next dream house (no worries, I would still finish restoring this one to it’s glory days!) I stumbled upon this fitting article!

How to Buy a House you Can’t Afford

Thanks Circa Old Houses for the great read and help!  If you have never taken a moment to check out their site, it’s wonderful.  Splendid layout.  Broad selection of historic homes and eye candy for days for those of you who love drooling over those old gems as much as I do!

Do it.

Ok, let’s do this!

5 Things that make you happy!  All 5 should be something you will experience in the next 24 hours (or the past 24)!  They can be little…like having the time to actually tweeze your eyebrows…I’m just saying!

So, here are mine!  Depending on if anyone actually participates, there might be a prize involved.  But for the internet being endless, it seems rather lonely at this point!

  1. I didn’t have to pay in our weekly weight loss challenge, and it was the week of Thanksgiving.  That is practically miracle worthy!
  2. I got to see something that looked like sunshine today!
  3. I ate chocolate today….and frankly, it was delicious…and well worth it!
  4. I started my Christmas shopping…and almost finished it (in about two hours mind you).
  5. I got to have a conversation with a friend and as a result, got to see her smile for being happy about something!

Ok, go ahead…be brave…add your 5 in the comments.  If I knew how to call out other bloggers, I would.  That might be my next mission!
